GenerationW is an accelerator program powered by Womenpreneur-Initiative and supported by the US Embassy in Brussels, aiming to support women during and after the COVID-19 crisis. It is a 6-month long program, designed to support 50 selected women, who have the opportunity to participate in more than 140 activities. The program aims to escalate women’s resilience to the crisis, their participation and engagement in entrepreneurship and digital. By attempting to reduce gender inequalities that exist in the economy and tech, this program is promoting and placing women at the center of the economy in Brussels.

On the 29th of July, the candidates attended an inspirational session with His Excellency the Ambassador of the United States in Belgium Ronald J. Gidwitz, who shared his personal entrepreneurial story, his successes and his failures, he also shared tips to become a good entrepreneur and a good leader. The candidates had the opportunity to listen to His Excellency, who not only shared with them stories about his background, but also talked about times of crisis, such as the current epidemic, and how to deal when such situations occur. The discussion lasted one hour, and it was concluded with a Q&A session with His Excellency.

On the 10th of September 2020 at 4pm, the workshop with Myriam Broeders and Nabil Cherchem from Microsoft and My innovation Center Brussels, addressed the subject of Artificial Intelligence. The speakers gave a very engaging presentation, the candidates learned about the principles of Artificial Intelligence, and the great lengths AI could bring us to. Nabil and Myriam presented and discussed voice recognition, facial analysis, deep-fakes and the different tools allowing to deconstruct these, as well as the importance of democratizing and making AI more transparent to the wider public..

During the session on the 29th of September, the GenerationW program held a Let’s Talk Gender session with Belgian Minister Ms. Trachte. The candidates had the opportunity to discuss with Minister Barbara Trachte about how women are affected by the covid-19 crisis, as well as what different measures there are and will be in place for women to soften the financial blow of the crisis.
GenerationW has also organised visits to businesses led by some of our candidates.The visits were mainly carried out in order to show support to female-led businesses in Brussels. It also allowed participants to network and learn from other entrepreneurs.

Nahid Essafi, 49 years old, is an entrepreneur and immigrant from Morocco. She is fighting to sustain her business "Salon La Mariée” in Molenbeek, as her business suffered from the terrorist attacks in Brussels back in 2016 and now she is struggling because of Covid-19.
